Why we built Mitten.

Every budgeting tool we tried made a choice we didn't like: let an algorithm silently decide what your money was for, take it or leave it. We wanted something different: an assistant that shows its work. That's Penny. When she's confident about a transaction, she says so. When she's not, she asks. It's a small design decision, but it changes the whole relationship: you're not trusting a black box with your spending, you're working with something that checks in.

The same thinking shaped everything else about Mitten. We didn't want to ask for a bank login just to build a budget, so we didn't. You upload a statement when you're ready, and that's the only door in.

Payments are securely processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd, our merchant of record. And to be plain about the rest: Mitten is one person, not a team. I build it, I answer the support email, and my own household runs on it every month.
